Welcome to My Homepage!
My name is Nikos Alachiotis. I received my diploma in Electronic and Computer Engineering from the Technical University of Crete in 2008. I completed my diploma thesis in the Microprocessor and Hardware Lab (MHL) of the Electronic and Computer Engineering Department, under the supervision of Prof. Apostolos Dollas. As of February 2009, I have been working towards the completion of my Ph.D. project in the "The Exelixis Lab", in the Informatics Department of the Technical University of Munich, under the supervision of Dr. Alexandros Stamatakis.
My research interests are in the area of designing dedicated computer architectures for computationally intensive bioinformatics applications using reconfigurable logic (FPGAs). My Ph.D. project includes the design of a reconfigurable co-processor for likelihood-based phylogenetic inference programs, e.g. RAxML.
